joyjoy studio is an interdisciplinary architecture firm that works intensively with the principles of the circular economy – in particular with the use and creative reuse of existing resources.
As part of the redesign of Café Mendel at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna, a specially designed café table was created combining leftover materials from kitchen worktops from a stonemason's workshop with recycled plastic sheets from FANTOPLAST. Developed from a circular design concept, the table was tested in the context of a café project – and further developed as an independent product. The table is available directly from joyjoy studio and can be used in a variety of ways – from restaurants to living rooms.
The design focused on resource-saving production: The stone slabs are taken in their existing form, as they are leftover pieces from the stonemason. The base frames made of FANTOPLAST sheets were dimensioned in such a way that there is hardly any waste. The result is a piece of furniture that makes material cycles visible – and consistently thinks them through.
